On Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Bryan Gil has undergone a surgery to ‘resolve an issue’ in his groin.

On Wednesday, Marca reported the winger has been struggling with an injury for the past few months.

The Tottenham player gave an interview to AS from the hospital where he admitted to having discomfort in the pubis since last November. He decided against finding a solution last year since it would have prevented him from returning to Sevilla on a loan deal in January.

“It was my decision. They recommended that I stop, because sooner or later it would give me problems. I was fit to play, with discomfort, and I wanted to take advantage of my short spell with Sevilla,” he said.

The 21-year-old was aware of the risks involved and claims he “had to use medication in order to play and train” during his temporary spell with the La Liga side. The Spaniard has also told AS that he was struggling with two different injuries.

“The important thing now is that the doctors have told me that everything has gone well and, in a few weeks, I will be recovered from both discomforts. What I have operated on has been some discomfort that I was dragging in the pubis,” Gil explained.

“But I have made the decision now because I suffered a small fissure in the sacrum that was going to keep me out for a few weeks, so I have taken advantage of this period of sick leave to undergo surgery.”

Gil has struggled to have a prominent role at Tottenham since he joined them in 2021. The Spain international has returned to London after a loan spell at Sevilla, with whom he won the Europa League last season.

When AS asked the Spurs attacker of his expectations for the new season, he admitted to have being already aware of new manager Ange Postecoglou’s methods.

He said: “I have felt good on the return to London. I’ve noticed I am in tune with the coach, I am facing the year with the usual enthusiasm and I would tell you that even more so because winning the Europa League raises your self-esteem.”

The player has a contract until 2026 but has refused to confirm or deny if he plans to leave Tottenham this summer. Gil claims he’s focused only on his recovery in order to return to the pitch.
