Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is about to complete his move to Villarreal, according to reports.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio writes that the midfielder ‘to fly today’ to Spain. There, he’ll have his medical and sign for the La Liga side.

On his website, the reporter adds that Lo Celso is leaving Tottenham on loan again, but this time with an option to buy included for Villarreal to potentially take advantage of.

The news comes with big impact in the Italian rumour mill, since the player had also been linked to the likes of Fiorentina and Lazio this summer.

Earlier today, however, Villarreal manager Unai Emery had already talked about how much he’d like to have the player at the club, pointing out he’d been satisfied with his past spell there.

“It is a difficult operation. For me it is about a player with a high level, in a club with high demands. We are lucky that he doesn’t fit in there and he did here. If he hadn’t come, we still wouldn’t have found certain returns that we did,” said Emery (via El Periodico Mediterraneo).

“Certain players are released to make room for others who can give us a superior contribution. Gio has told me personally and the club that he has been comfortable at Villarreal. Everything would be easier with him and the competitive level in certain positions would be guaranteed. The idea is that he can be with us but there are certain things that block and do not make it possible. Firm decisions have to be made as to how he can come.”

Lo Celso played for Villarreal earlier this year, on a half-season loan spell. There he made 21 appearances which were more than enough for the club to fight to have him for longer.

Now it seems their agreement with Tottenham was finally reached, and we should get more details on it soon.
