Tottenham have been likened to ‘rich kids’ throwing away their toys for their treatment of Tanguy Ndombele.

The French midfielder has joined Napoli on loan this season after it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans.

It brings a temporary end to a miserable spell with Tottenham, where he has struggled to impress following a £54m move from Lyon in 2019.

The French midfielder will be hoping to revive his career in Italy, something that has become something of a trend in recent years.

The obvious example of that is Romelu Lukaku, who himself has returned to the country from Chelsea this summer after a miserable year back in the Premier League.

He had reinvented himself during a two-year spell at Inter Milan following a disappointing period with Manchester United, something which led Chelsea to pay over £100m for him last summer.

That never worked out and he’s instead moved back to Italy to get back to what he was and journalist Paolo Condò believes he can be an excellent example for the Tottenham man.

“Ndombele at Napoli? He failed at Tottenham,” he told Tutto Napoli.

“Serie A needs to go and rediscover players we know are strong, but who have failed at their clubs.

“Rich kids have come along and bought all the best toys that were in the window, but rich kids are also capricious and maybe the next year they don’t want those toys anymore.

“So, we with great humility go and take these thrown-away toys, put a patch on them, and treat them with more affection. This includes Romelu Lukaku.”
