When the name Douglas Costa appears in Tuttosport, we normally let out a small groan as we know that, somehow, the story will include Manchester City and Manchester United.

Monday’s edition was different, however, as the Italian newspaper get very excited about Tottenham joining the mix ahead of the summer.

In need of squad bolstering after two barren transfer windows, Spurs have, according to ‘corroborating English sources’, started looking at the Brazilian, suggesting perhaps Lucas Moura or Erik Lamela (or both) could make way in the summer.

That last bit is Tuttopsort perhaps jumping the gun a little bit, but they seem pretty certain that Mauricio Pochettino and his staff are taking an active interest in Costa.

Only ‘simple enquiries’ have been made as things stand, meaning Tottenham haven’t overtaken anyone in the race to signing the former Bayern Munich winger, which we are sure will be delightful news to all the other clubs involved in this.

As for the price, Juventus know it might be tricky to ask for a lot after a rather disappointing season from the 28-year-old (one goal and two assists in 24 appearances), but hope remains some kind of unexpected auction could take place between the Premier League sides.

We’ll believe it when we see it, but it’s one we’ll be keeping an eye out for going forward.
