Tottenham’s lack of Champions League football could work against them in the race for Juventus star Paulo Dybala.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset and Italia 1, relayed by FC Inter 1908, who give Tottenham a 5% chance of pulling off a deal for the Argentine forward.
Dybala is set to leave Juventus on a free transfer this summer, with the Italian giants making the decision to release him on a free after contract renewal talks failed to come to anything.
Sport Mediaset cover that today and say an initial agreement had been reached for €8m a year plus €2m in bonuses, but that was then pulled back to around €5m, something which was ‘considered unacceptable’ by Dybala.
He’s now set to leave, and the focus is on those who could pick him up, with Tottenham brought into the picture because of Fabio Paratici.
He is the man who was key to Dybala joining Juventus in the first place, and it has been suggested that relationship could be key to Tottenham getting him.
According to them, Inter Milan have the best shot at 30%, then there’s Barcelona and PSG at 25%, Atletico Madrid at 15% and Tottenham last at 5%.
Their argument is that Spurs cannot yet ‘guarantee the Champions League’, and until that is the case, their chances of doing a deal are slim at best.
However, the suggestion there is that should they finish in the top four, they would be a far more attractive proposition to Dybala than they are currently.
Extra motivation, then, for Antonio Conte and co to continue their fine form between now and the end of the season and try to catch Arsenal, who are currently three points ahead with a game in hand.
