Earlier this week, we relayed news from Spain that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a summer move for Emerson Royal.

The right-back is co-owned by Real Betis and Barcelona, and can move to the Camp Nou in July, if they pay €3m to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

That’s what Mundo Deportivo are reporting on Friday, and they also detail the Brazilian’s progression with Real Betis in the past two seasons.

Journalist Xavier Bosch claims the 22-year-old is now ‘robust in defence’ and ‘much more decisive’ in the attack.

Although comparisons with Cafu and Dani Alves are exaggerated, Emerson, to this day, has a ‘lot of market’. Tottenham, who have an interest, are named as one of the suitors along with Paris Saint-Germian, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Villarreal.

The journalist is of the belief Barcelona would not ‘rule out’ selling Emerson because they will have to ‘make money’ through player sales in the summer.

Ronald Koeman has Sergiño Dest and Sergi Roberto as the two options on the right side of defence.

Bosch says the 19-year-old hasn’t convinced in his debut season in Spain, while Roberto has suffered multiple injuries this campaign. Therefore, Emerson could be considered as an option by the Catalan club.

With Tottenham and several other sides looking at Emerson, it’ll be interesting to see what Barca’s plans are for the South American.
