Tottenham’s director of football Fabio Paratici has been discussed at Paris Saint Germain as a replacement for Leonardo.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who cover the Brazilian’s future at the French giants moving forwards.
They explain that Leonardo was previously ‘very popular’ with those in charge and fans alike, but he has lost a ‘good part of his popularity’ in the last few months.
That’s due to bad transfer choices, tense relations with managers and a January transfer window that was deemed disappointing.
It’s led to criticism from the fanbase, particularly over last month, where it was felt PSG made ‘several blunders’ that cannot be forgiven.
Deals such as the one for Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele were aborted at the last minute, largely because it was based on his relationship with Mauricio Pochettino, who won’t be staying beyond the summer.
Transfers are the crux of it, though, which brings Mbappé into the picture. He’s set to leave on a free in the summer, which is considered ‘heresy’ and has been laid at Leonardo’s feet.
Thus, attention has turned to a replacement, and PSG held ‘contacts’ with other sporting directors over the last few months.
Tottenham’s Fabio Paratici is one of them, although it is not made clear if they were held before or after his arrival in London.
The Italian only joined Tottenham in the summer when he left Juventus, so it would make sense for PSG to have held talks then.
The use of the term ‘the past few months’ suggests it was after he arrived at Tottenham, though, which might be a concern for Daniel Levy and co.
At the minute, it seems there is no immediate danger of PSG replacing Leonardo, but there is a feeling the tide is turning, and it could be something to keep a close eye on moving forwards.
