Newcastle United continue to be named as one of the clubs interested in Napoli star Victor Osimhen in the summer.
The Magpies looked at the striker in the winter market, but their proposal was rejected by the Serie A side.
On April 28th, La Repubblica reported Newcastle United have ‘attended’ the ‘auction’ for the 23-year-old, who faces a ‘serious danger of being sold’ in the summer.
The same report also mentioned that Manchester United have made an offer in excess of €100m for the Nigeria international.
After these claims of the Red Devils and Newcastle emerged, CalcioNapoli24 got in touch with the former Lille man’s ‘friend’, Oma Akatugba. The Nigerian journalist is of the belief the backing of the PIF could allow Eddie Howe’s side to land Osimhen in the next window.
“I think the Premier League clubs can afford figures of around €100m, just think of Newcastle, controlled by Saudi Arabia: the question, however, is to understand if there is actually an offer,” Akatugba said.
“What matters is the will of Victor Osimhen? Napoli spent over €70m to buy him from Lille and certainly would like to collect a lot of money in the event of a sale: it would be a matter of business, but the club would be happy to keep him and Victor himself would be happy to stay in the city.
“Victor wants to write the history of Napoli as Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain did, but it is clear that one day he would not say no to a Premier League experience: that could be a new destination.”
Over at Calciomercato, they further go on to explain that there will be ‘no veto on the sale’ of Osimhen from Luciano Spalletti’s side, as long as there is an offer of €100m plus bonuses.
Newcastle are in picture to sign the striker, who would not turn down a chance to move to the Premier League. However, the Magpies will need to spend big if they want to secure Osimhen’s services.
