Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovač will not end up at Liverpool in the summer.
That’s according to the Croatian himself, and appearing as a guest on Servus TV’s Sport und Talk im Hangar 7, he dismissed recent reports linking him with a move to Liverpool.
His comments are relayed by Krone.
Jürgen Klopp has already announced his decision to leave the Reds at the end of this season and the Merseyside club are working behind the scenes to appoint his successor.
The 52-year-old has been without a job since VfL Wolfsburg showed him the exit door last month.
At the weekend, claims from the UK stated Kovač’s agent was in England, searching for a club in the Premier League. It was also said he has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace Klopp at Anfield. The manager has now put these links to bed.
When asked about the Liverpool rumours, he said: “There’s always a lot written about it, but there’s nothing to it.”
Krone questions whether this is ‘pure tactics or unvarnished truth’, and add that there should be better clarity on Kovač’s case in the next few weeks.
It’s to be noted that several claims in the Portuguese press have stated Sporting manager Rúben Amorim is the main target to become the next Liverpool manager.
