It had been a while since we last saw rumours about a Sporting youngster. As the club’s league form hasn’t been so good, things have gone a little quiet at Alvalade regarding these matters.

But not for long, of course. On Friday, out of nowhere, A Bola come up with a story saying Sporting have set a price for if big European clubs try to sign Gelson Martins in the summer. The club have recently given Martins a new contract with a €60m release clause, which should be enough to ask for what they want, which is €50m.

CapturarThe interested sides haven’t changed. First Manchester United, who have been following the player for a while and have several scouting reports on him. Then Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and PSG are all said to be keen on the winger.

Manchester United’s scouting of Portuguese matches this summer means they’ll be well informed on Martins and most of the stars of the country’s league.

Jose Mourinho has upped scouting generally at the club, and in Portugal there’s a Manchester United scout at every big game, and many small ones too.

Manchester City don’t quite scout as much in Portugal, but Pep Guardiola has been linked with interest in several players, mainly at Benfica.
