Manchester United have been repeatedly linked to Frenkie de Jong over the past couple of weeks, with it thought Erik ten Hag would like to be reunited with the midfielder.
The claims have been mainly coming from the Catalan media, and it’s seemed that Barcelona want to float the idea of selling the Dutchman. He hasn’t been bad since moving from Ajax, but the general consensus among those who cover the club is that he hasn’t fully matched expectations either.
With Barcelona still having financial difficulties, De Jong is seen as a way to make money in the upcoming transfer window.
Florian Plettenberg, who has been full of exclusive claims recently, states ‘Ten Hag wants him’, and that Manchester United are ‘trying everything’ to make a transfer happen.
Talks have already started, and the Red Devils would be putting together a financial package to tempt Barcelona into agreeing a deal.
However, Plettenberg also says Xavi Hernandez doesn’t want to let the player go, so it could be a case of the Catalan club going up against their manager should they want to accept a Manchester United offer.
