Newcastle United have Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné ‘on the list’ and he could end up breaking the German side’s transfer record.

That’s according to BILD, who say the talented French U21 international is on the Magpies’ list as they plan for the future.

The newspaper explains that while there is plenty of focus on Marcus Thuram and Yann Sommer at present, Koné is Borussia’s ‘absolute jewel’ and also seems to be in line for a big move in future.

His value has already ‘exploded’ from €7m to €25m since he made his debut in the Bundesliga in the summer of 2021 and is trending upwards.

He will soon be a full international and his name has already made its way ‘on the list’ of clubs such as Liverpool, Newcastle and Paris Saint Germain.

Indeed, Gladbach believe that despite having the player contracted until 2025 ‘they will hardly be able’ to keep the player beyond this summer.

That’s because ‘Koné is aiming for the next step in his development’ and wants a move, something the Bundesliga side are more than aware of.

They are gearing up for a big sale and ‘it is quite possible’ that the youngster will eclipse the current record sale, which is Granit Xhaka’s €43m move to Arsenal.

Whether Newcastle are willing to pay such a figure remains to be seen but Koné is very much on their list of potential targets moving forward.
