Manchester City are ready to pay Erling Haaland’s €75m release clause, and ‘the switch is imminent’.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say the release clause expires at the end of April, and thus a deal has to be closed by that point.

They explain that while Borussia Dortmund are trying to keep Haaland at the club, that is increasingly unlikely to happen as Manchester City are pushing for his signature.

As things stand, they will pay the €75m release clause, which must be activated by the end of April, when it expires.

The date of that expiry had been secret but has now been revealed to be 30th April 2022, and negotiations with any club must be concluded by that point.

Normally the player in question must submit a ‘written declaration’ that he wishes to make use of the release clause, and the club taking on the player has to guarantee the transfer payment in a notarised statement.

Before that, all documents are usually checked by lawyers, but because of the ‘bureaucratic procedures’, Haaland was forced to make a clear transfer decision before that deadline.

That fits in with the announcement made by BVB managing director Hans Joachim Watzke, who said in February that the decision would be made within a month. It has been, and it’s stated Haaland wants to go to Manchester City.

He does not want to ‘wait any longer’ for his big move, and with Real Madrid pushing for Kylian Mbappe, would prefer to go to the Etihad and be the main man.

His father already played for the Citizens during his career, so there is that allure, and Haaland junior is now being discussed ‘intensively’ inside the Manchester City dressing room.

He’s seen as the ‘ideal solution’ to fill the striker position, and the club are now ready to pay the release clause and have the deal wrapped up by the end of April when the clause expires.
