It’s all going well for Swansea City forward Bafetimbi Gomis at Marseille since his arrival in the summer. The 31-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Francesco Guidolin, but was sacked by the Premier League side.

At Marseille, the French forward is one of the first names on the team sheet after impressing in his first few months in Ligue 1. The 31-year-old was signed by Franck Passi for the French club, but he is still equally important to new manager Rudi Garcia.

So much so, reports in the French media suggest Garcia has decided to appoint Gomis as the captain of Marseille until the end of the season.

Gomis has captained Marseille few times this season, but RMC Sport say Rudi Garcia has been experimenting with different captains after his arrival.

It’s reported Gomis didn’t want to take the extra pressure, but eventually agreed to take over the captaincy.

Rudi Garcia also confirmed his decision publicly, and the appointment is a little surprising considering it’s not certain if Gomis will stay at the club beyond the summer.
