Originally put forward as a deal likely to happen, Hugo Lloris’ exit from Tottenham to Lazio hit a few stumbling blocks along the way.

The first was that Maurizio Sarri wasn’t convinced he was the right man for the job and could disrupt Ivan Provedel as the starter, while the second was that the veteran goalkeeper wasn’t overly thrilled at the prospect of being number two.

That’s why Lazio appeared to move onto US Salernitana 1919’s Luigi Sepe, but Il Messaggero, relayed by La Lazio Siamo Noi, claim the Serie A side have not yet given up on the Tottenham player, with the latter headlining it as a ‘surprise’.

It’s written that while the 32-year-old Italian is ‘close to becoming’ the next number two in Rome, but everyone must ‘because of Hugo Lloris’.

The Tottenham player, while he did ‘say no’ to Lazio’s initial call because they couldn’t ‘guarantee him a starting place’, could still reconsider.

That’s Lazio’s hope, because ‘new contact’ is ‘expected’ in the next few days, which is seen as a ‘last-ditch call’ to try and convince him to sign.

However, should they receive ‘another no’ from the Tottenham player, that would push them to finalise the transfer of Sepe, as the alternatives named as Frederik Rönnow and Jesse Joronen are ‘a long way off’.
