Eric Dier has suddenly become ‘less attractive’ than he once was for Italian side Roma, raising questions over whether they’ll look to sign him from Tottenham in January.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who pour cold water all over the potential transfer despite weeks of speculation linking Roma with a move.

They’re reportedly in the market for a centre-back in the coming weeks after suffering in that area of the team this season and Dier has regularly been named as a priority target.

He’s barely featured for Tottenham this season under Ange Postecoglou, leading to confidence that a deal could be done in the January transfer window.

Indeed, the belief was that the potential move was being pushed by Roma manager Jose Mourinho, with it claimed this week his interest in his former player was becoming an obsession.

Gazzetta, though, pour cold water all over that idea today in an article looking at the various names Roma may be considering.

They leave Dier to last and say that he is ‘considered less attractive’ than some of the other names on the list, such as Trevoh Chalobah and Oumar Solet.

That’s a complete change around from what was being reported earlier this week and indeed throughout the last few weeks, so it’s an interesting twist.

Whether that means Dier remains stuck at Spurs and doesn’t get the exit he needs remains to be seen, but this sudden change of opinion on him certainly can’t go unnoticed.
