Fenerbahce are now prepared to wait until the start of August to sign Sunderland’s Jeremain Lens, report SporX.

The Turkish website have claimed Fenerbahçe have been unable to convince Sunderland over a permanent transfer, and the Turkish side’s president Aziz Yildirim has told his board members talks will be put on hold for the time being.

Yildirim believes they can sign the Sunderland attacker on the cheap if they wait until August, and the Turkish giants think they can land Lens for €4m. Sunderland are currently insisting on €6.5m for the Dutchman, but Fenerbahce have made it clear they will not pay such a fee.

Lens spent last season on loan with Fenerbahce, and he impressed during a difficult season for the club. With Sunderland’s relegation to the Championship there’s uncertainty over his future in England, which has led to speculation he could return to Turkey this summer.

Fenerbahce’s local rivals Beşiktaş and Galatasaray have also been linked with the Sunderland player in recent weeks.
