After Serdar Aziz was ruled out for the season with injury, Galatasaray are in the market for a defender report Fotomaç. Former Juventus star Martin Caceres is one of those players they’re looking at after the club cooled their interest in Southampton flop Vegard Forren, but face competition from Sunderland.

Fotomaç claim Inter Milan and David Moyes’ Sunderland are the main competitors to Galatasaray, but the Turkish club are hoping the presence of Fernando Muslera, a Uruguay team mate of Caceres, will make it easier for the 29 year old to choose them over the Premier League side.

Sunderland are in the hunt for a central defender, and Fotomac say Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho is an option along with Caceres. Galatasaray had also been linked with Sakho, but he doesn’t want a Turkey move, and now the Turkish media reckons they’re set to tussle with Sunderland for Caceres.

Caceres is currently without a club after his contract with Juventus expired in the summer, there’d be no transfer deal and the Uruguayan doesn’t appear to be in a big rush.
