A few days ago, we covered a story from Belgium explaining that Sunderland AFC were interested in KRC Genk’s András Németh.

The young striker’s contract with the Belgian side is going to expire at the end of the season, but despite him not renewing, they decided they would keep him to help their reserves team rather than cash in on him in January.

That was a bit of a blow for Sunderland, who perhaps would have wanted him in the current window to strengthen their squad as they seek a playoff spot in the Championship.

Well, there’s even more negative news for the Black Cats now, as Kicker in Germany are reporting that HSV in Germany are now interested in the Hungary international.

It’s said they are ‘making intensive efforts’ to get him from Genk, and would come in as ‘talented cover’ for their top scorer Robert Glatzel.

The outlet also mention Sunderland, as they are listed as ‘competition’ for the 2. Bundesliga side in this race.

It remains to be seen if Genk will change their mind about a January move, but if they do, it’s almost certain that the Black Cats will be there waiting, alongside the Hamburg club.
