Sunderland are today linked to Lyon midfielder Skelly Alvero.

The news is brought by L’Equipe, who claim that the player is ‘desperate’ for a move to get more playing time for the rest of the season.

Lyon signed Alvero in a €4m deal from FC Sochaux last summer, and despite his nine appearances for the club, he hasn’t played since early December.

A couple of European sides are said to be interested in his signing. Sunderland are one of them, as they ‘made enquiries’ to get him this month.

The other interested club is Werder Bremen, who are already in talks with Lyon for the 21-year-old.

It’s said the Bundesliga side placed an offer for a loan until the end of the season and an option to buy, and it seems they’re now waiting for the French club’s response.

L’Equipe’s story gives a lot more attention to Werder Bremen than to Sunderland, making it clear the talks with the Bundesliga side are more advanced, so the Black Cats should probably hurry up if they still want to have a chance.
