Over the past few months, we’ve covered with interest where Zulte Waregem’s Soualiho Meïté could end up.

Currently on loan from Lille, there is a strong chance the Belgian side will buy the 22-year-old midfielder before the end of the season, and with the level of performances he has produced this season, he very well could end up leaving in the summer too.

Back in December, there were quite a few articles written about interest from the Premier League in Meïté, with both Stoke and Crystal Palace making ‘concrete approaches’ for his services ahead of the January transfer window.

Unfortunately for both Mark Hughes and now Sam Allardyce, the terms of the loan deal with Lille complicated any potential transfer before the summer, meaning a move to either the bet365 Stadium or Selhurst Park would have to wait.

That, and the fact the player wasn’t interested in leaving in January, as he explained to Walfoot on Monday that he had made a promise to his current manager that he would stay until the end of the season at least.

He said: “I’m not thinking about my future, otherwise I’ll lose my focus. We’ll see what happens. There’s been a lot of transfers at Lille? (seven on deadline day) I don’t pay a lot of attention”.

Clearly uninterested about a possible return to Ligue 1, Meïté’s dream destination, as he revealed last week, is Manchester United.

However, before that happens, he might need to move to a ‘smaller’ Premier League club.

Crystal Palace or Stoke, anyone?
