There’s a lot of annoyance in Barcelona right now over Nike’s plans for the club’s home kit next season.

It’s not so long since the sportwear brand turned the vertical stripes horizontal for a season and that wasn’t accepted kindly by many. But now they’re going to getting rid of the stripes altogether and are going for a chequered design.

Whilst the change is only for a season, it’s not gone down well and Spanish newspaper AS ponder why this hasn’t happened to other clubs… like Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers’ club have a long and proud tradition of their green horizontal stripes, and AS say that when the Scottish Premiership club were with Nike the brand didn’t try and mess with Bhoys tradition too much.

It’s not just Celtic, but also Boca Juniors. Historic clubs, traditional kits, but Nike never dared to get rid of Celtic’s hoops or change the Boca set-up.

AS suggests this could be why Celtic are now with New Balance, making a break because Nike wanted to get more creative. That’s probably looking into things a little too much.
