There’s an update from Portugal on Benfica’s chase for Aaron Martin, and it again mentions Everton as competition for the Lisbon club.
Record are starting to sound serious about Benfica’s attempts for the Espanyol player, and seem to have some confidence.
It’s claimed the Portuguese club have scheduled a meeting with their counterparts at the Spanish club, and Benfica’s plan is to get the asking price down.
Interestingly, it’s stated Espanyol want €15m, and it’s claimed that reports in the UK state Everton have offered, or are willing to offer, €30m.
That seems wide of the mark, and the Spanish claims of Everton submitting a €20m January offer would be easier to believe.
But with Benfica trying to get the 21 year old left back for a steal, as they always do, it helps make Everton’s approach look more attractive, especially if there’s no other competition.
Should the Eagles go in with €12/13m then Everton’s €20m seems very reasonable by comparison. In fact, Benfica dragging things down may well help Everton.
