A week ago, we covered claims from Spain about Real Betis interest in Mateo Joseph. The gist was that the Spanish club had considered moving for the Leeds United player in January, but opted to go for Cucho Hernández instead.
That arrival from MLS side Columbus Crew obviously hadn’t fully filled the hole that Betis were looking solve in the winter market, and now they’re against looking towards Leeds United for the summer.
There was no talk of fee or anything like that from the initial claims, and that’s likely where Real Betis would hit a wall. They’ve had some wildly fortunate deals from Leeds United in recent years, thanks to players using relegation clauses, and this time things would be very different.
A second source suggested €13-15m would be enough for the Spanish U21 international.
El Chiringuito now also report interest in the 21-year-old from Real Betis. They state first contact has been made with the player’s camp about a potential transfer.
That’s all they have for now, and there’s no update elsewhere in Spain either.
Mateo Joseph made 41 appearances for Leeds United in the 2024/25 season, totalling just over 1,400 minutes. His contract lasts until 2028 and he’s represented by Wasserman.
