Sometimes a footballer finds himself in a rut that he simply cannot escape and that is certainly the case for Aston Villa’s Wesley Moraes.

The striker moved to Levante in the summer transfer window, cutting short a loan spell with Internacional to return to Europe.

He would have been hoping it was third time lucky for him in his efforts to kickstart his career, with his efforts at Club Brugge and Internacional failing miserably.

Back in October we covered how the loan spell at Levante was yet to get going, with his last goal coming in April and him yet to show anything positive for the Spanish side.

It seems that has continued for the Aston Villa man, with Plaza Deportiva covering him today and his ongoing struggles.

They explain that this weekend’s clash with Olot in the first round of the Copa del Rey is ‘the opportunity’ for the striker to break his bad streak, which has now extended to more than 700 minutes without scoring as a Levante player.

He’s yet to score since arriving in the summer, going 720 minutes without a goal in La Liga and has only managed to contribute one assist. Even that came on August 27th and there’s been nothing since.

It means he has ‘lost prominence’ in the team and hasn’t started a game in nearly a month, barely earning 30 minutes of action as Mohamed Bouldini has replaced him in the team.

The ‘poor run’ in front of goal is nothing new for the Aston Villa loanee, who has now only managed two goals in official competitions in the last two seasons.

He’ s struggled to find his best form since a serious injury while at Aston Villa and now needs to take the ‘perfect opportunity’ against Olot to try and turn things around.
