It’s well known that misery loves company and for Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes, it’s proven to be company he can’t get rid of.

The Brazilian striker has had a tough few years after picking up a cruciate ligament injury at the beginning of 2020 with that keeping him out of action foe 366 days and 40 games for Aston Villa.

A knee injury the following year saw him miss another 11 days and 17 games for Aston Villa and he’s not been able to recover since.

A loan spell at Internacional did not manage to get things back on track and so he headed out to Levante for a second shot at redemption.

Unfortunately, as Plaza Deportiva report, things have not gone to plan. They explain that the Brazilian has yet to score for Levante, despite playing in all eight league games this season.

It means he has only scored two goals in total this calendar year, both of which came during his spell as Internacional.

He broke that agreement to move to Spain with Levante and has been shown faith from the management, who’ve handed him the fifth most minutes this season. In fact, he is ‘by far the most used striker’ for coach Mehdi Nafti.

The Aston Villa loanee has started seven of eight league games so far, with the other game seeing him come on as a half time substitute.

The closest he has come to scoring is a header which hit the post, but his last actual goal dates back to April this year for Internacional.

It’s a sad state of affairs for a striker who scored 38 goals in 136 games for Brugge during his first spell there before moving to Aston Villa but now seems to be on a constant downward spiral he is unable to escape from.
