Friday’s edition of Tuttosport has a headline reading: ‘Brozo, a renewal to stop Conte’

The gist of the story is that Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach to sign the midfielder as a free agent when his Inter Milan contract expires in the summer.

Inter have been working to ‘stop Conte’ getting the midfielder and it’s thought they’ve succeeded, with the Croatian set to sign a new contract lasting until 2026, which will earn him about €7m a year after tax.

However, within the story there’s a suggestion that Brozovic’s status at Inter played a big role, and that he perhaps had some apprehension over starting again at Spurs.

One of the fan favourites for the Milan club, it’s explained he has an importance which it would be hard to match elsewhere.

Tottenham making contact recently is reiterated, and it’s then said Brozovic would have faced ‘fierce competition’ for a place in Conte’s midfield.

That, added to losing his Inter hero status, and him now getting a bumper new salary package, is what has helped make the player’s mind up.
