Barcelona have confirmed their sporting director Mateu Alemany will leave on June 30th and Aston Villa are expected to be his next destination, according to reports from Spain.

The Villans made their first approach for the La Liga side’s chief at the start of this year and have remained in the background since then.

That’s according to El Mundo, who add the Spaniard is in ‘full negotiations’ with Aston Villa to lead their sporting project from next season.

Over at Sport, it’s said the Premier League side are in ‘pole position’ to secure Alemany’s services.

In today’s print edition, the Catalan newspaper provides additional updates on Aston Villa’s efforts to secure the deal.

His contract at the Camp Nou lasts until 2024, but he’s decided to leave after this season to start a new adventure elsewhere.

According to Sport, Alemany has received an ‘irresistible offer’ from an English club, which would ‘quadruple’ his current salary. They believe it’s been proposed by Unai Emery’s side.

Aston Villa want to create a new project that will allow them to grow more in the Premier League. This is why they are keen to have Alemany at Villa Park.

Emery’s side are currently seventh in the table, trailing fifth placed Liverpool by two points.

Another newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, states Alemany has informed Barca president Joan Laporta that ‘he will sign’ for Aston Villa. It’s also stated he has received a ‘great financial offer’ from them, which Barca cannot match, to lead their long-term project.
