According a claim in the Catalan press, Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward is keen to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, but that’s against the wishes of Jose Mourinho.

With Bale’s continuing injury problems, the Spanish champions could look to cash in on the Wales international.

Mundo Deportivo have today reported Bale is still on the radar of Manchester United, even though Mourinho doesn’t want the player in his squad.

Woodward is the one who’s pushing a move for the Welshman, an believes a deal is possible with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez is open to the idea of selling Bale because he no longer has faith in the club’s record signing. Since his move from Tottenham Hotspur, Bale has struggled with injuries, and Perez thinks he should now be sold, so they can spend the transfer fee on other players.

The Catalan newspaper report there’s a possibility of an exchange involving David de Gea and Bale, but it’s more likely Manchester United would want a cash only deal.

Despite these claims it seems the Catalan press are stirring things up with Real Madrid and Mourinho. With the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and their dislike of Mourinho, it looks like they’re trying to ruffle a few feathers.
