Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson has ended up on Southampton’s radar for the winter market.

The striker has three goals and three assists from 24 matches in all competitions this season. He has failed to score and registered one assist since Unai Emery was replaced by Quique Setién back in October.

Having lost prominence under Setién, El Periódico Mediterráneo explain the 21-year-old wants to leave the club in January. Southampton are the only club named as his suitor in the report.

A few Spanish clubs have asked the Yellow Submarine about the frontman, but the ones who are ‘showing the most interest’ in the Senegal international are the Saints, but there is no mention whether Southampton’s interest is to sign the player on loan or buy him in the current window.

Villarreal need to adjust their finances, and one way to do is by offloading a few players this month, which will also help them reduce the wage bill.

Therefore, they ‘would not look badly’ on sanctioning Jackson’s transfer in January.

Southampton have shown interest in Jackson, and it remains to be seen whether they will make a firm approach to secure his services.
