There’s a claim in the Italian media that Atalanta have made an attempt to sign Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina, but they’ve been knocked back by the Premier League side.

TMW have reported on the latest developments with regards to Lemina’s future in England following reports he could look to leave this summer.

It’s claimed Atlanta are looking to give him the opportunity to return to Serie A, but Southampton have rejected theiroff of a loan with right of redemption.

According to TMW, Southampton will only let Lemina leave on a permanent deal and they are now waiting to see if Atalanta will come back with an improved offer. It’s expected the Italian side will make another attempt in the coming days.

Saints are looking to recoup the €18m they paid to Juventus in 2017 but whether Atalanta will pay this is unknown. Signing for the club could be attractive for the player, with them qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Lemina is contracted to Southampton until June 2022.
