Southampton appear to have raced ahead of the competition for midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, with a deal now in place with the Argentine youngster.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who report on Southampton’s advances and their possible advantage over rivals Inter Milan for Alcaraz’s signature.

They explain that Inter are ready to attack the January transfer window and are ‘looking with interest’ at the Argentine market and the ‘hot name’ is that of Carlos Alcaraz.

He is one of the brightest talents in South American football and has been on Inter’s radar for some time. They will, however, have to be aware of ‘fierce competition’ from the Premier League.

In fact, according to the website’s own information, Southampton have now made an official offer of €12m plus €1m in bonuses. That is an improvement on the €10m they have reportedly already seen rejected.

They have also reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Alcaraz’s entourage about a move to the club, which is a major step towards an agreement.

Racing, though, are holding things up at the moment as they are only ‘evaluating the proposal’ from Southampton at this moment in time. They are eager to scrape together the maximum possible from any deal and thus everything is still at stake.

Southampton have moved definitively regardless and that is something Inter are now aware of, with the belief they will need to move so they don’t miss out on Alcaraz.
