Once a regular starter for Southampton, Yan Valery has fallen down the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhüttl, playing just 45 minutes of Premier League football to date this season.

So much so, in fact, that it appears he could be leaving St Mary’s on transfer deadline day, with just one year left on his contract with the Saints.

That’s according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who claims the player is ‘in contact’ with Angers SCO in Ligue 1.

In fact, the talks are ‘for an arrival before the end of the summer transfer window’, and given his contractual situation with Southampton, you would expect it to be a full transfer.

Otherwise, he would need to extend his contract at St Mary’s before heading out on a loan, which doesn’t seem to be an option these days.

That, and the fact Southampton have yet to make any money from sales this summer would mean that getting rid of Valery, even for a handful of millions, could be a nice late income for the Premier League club.

Let’s wait and see.
