Southampton ‘have not said the last word’ in their pursuit of Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson and his entourage are confident a deal can be struck for him this month.

That’s according to Cadena SER, who say the striker is aware of the interest in his signature, particularly from Southampton.

The Saints have been linked with the Villarreal forward over the last few weeks, with Nathan Jones determined to improve his forward options for their battle against relegation.

Cadena SER say they are the ‘main one’ in terms of suitors at this moment in time and would be willing to sign Jackson, offering a loan with an option to buy.

This was rejected by Villarreal.

They’ve ‘not said the last word’ on the matter, though, and are considering a new offer for the Senegal international, who can leave if the right bid is made.

The two clubs are not close at this moment in time but there is a confidence a deal can be struck, particularly from the player’s side.

Indeed, his entourage are said to be ‘optimistic’ about getting a deal done with Southampton before the end of the window.
