Harry Kane last featured for Tottenham Hotspur during their 1-0 defeat to Southampton on New Year’s Day as he’s forced to spend time away from the pitch due to an injury, and on January 9th, Spurs confirmed the England international is expected to return to training in April.
José Mourinho’s side face RB Leipzig in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday, and with Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl managing the Bundesliga club for two seasons between 2016 to 2018, Bild interviewed the Austrian ahead of the European tie between Spurs and Leipzig.
Hasenhüttl has issued a warning to his former club on why the north London club could be lethal, even with Kane’s absence.
“With Lucas Moura, Tottenham becomes extremely dangerous, especially in transition situations. Because of the loss of Harry Kane, they are more focused on counterattack than dominant possession,” Hasenhüttl said.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, they will not be able to rely on Son Heung-min as the South Korean fractured his arm against Aston Villa. It remains to be seen if Moura can lead his side’s attack in the absence of Kane and Son.
Meanwhile, Hasenhüttl has also spoken about Tottenham’s ‘weak points’.
“The defence has problems when it has to defend higher up the pitch. Some players lack pace. That’s why I expect them to defend more deeply in their own stadium and to wait for a counter-attack,” he added.
As he said, that’s where they should excel, so RB Leipzig have been warned.
