Among the crazy rumours of deadline day, we now see Southampton getting linked to Atalanta star Duvan Zapata.

That’s today reported by website TuttoMercatoWeb, who says the Saints had this ‘idea’ of going for the Colombian striker ‘in these last hours’ of the window.

It’s said Southampton would like to sign the striker on a loan until the end of the season, and then have an option to buy him for €15m.

Even though TMW doesn’t say if that offer has already been rejected, they do claim that Atalanta are ‘not interested’ in that type of deal for now, suggesting it probably has.

Zapata has been struggling a little with injuries this season, and that’s one of the reasons why he isn’t a regular starter as he once was.

That’s why he only has one goal and four assists in 14 appearances.

Still, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Atalanta to let the player go with no guarantee of the money.

So perhaps if Southampton could try an outright purchase, or a loan with an obligation to buy, those conditions would seem more attractive for the Serie A side.
