Lyon have ‘opened negotiations’ for Chelsea midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko as they look to sign a defensive midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French side are ‘in a race against time’ to find a midfielder to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.

They are now ‘looking to sign’ the Chelsea man in the near future, with him linked to various transfers throughout this month.

He is currently on loan at AC Milan but he no longer features for the Italian side and the plan was to cancel that and move him elsewhere.

He had been close to signing for Cremonese in the last few hours, but Lyon’s late move ‘changed everything’ and that deal is no longer close.

There is also an offer from Adana Demirspor in Turkey, who hope to convince Bakayoko into a move there.

Thus it is now a three-way battle between those three sides for the French midfielder, with his future ‘currently being decided’ by Chelsea and the relevant parties.
