Southampton are favourites to sign Genk right-back Joakim Maehle in the summer transfer window.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport say, reporting that the Saints interest in the 22-year-old has made things ‘complicated’ for Serie A side Bologna.
The Italians had been interested in Maehle, with them looking to add a right-back this summer, with Siniša Mihajlović planning on moving Takehiro Tomiyasu to centre-back.
Maehle was a target they had been linked to, but according to Gazzetta, that has become ‘complicated’ as Southampton are ‘leading the race’ for the Genk defender.
They need a right-back themselves having sold Cedric Soares to Arsenal in January and been forced to use James Ward-Prowse in the position at times since then.
It’s not the first time Southampton have been linked to Maehle, who was linked heavily with a move to St Mary’s during the winter transfer window.
Indeed, there was even talk of an €11.5m bid, and it would not be surprising if another attempt is incoming in the summer.
