It seems Southampton stood still in the last days of the transfer market in order to keep Cedric Soares at the club.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Record, the Premier League side had many approaches for the right-back until deadline day, but the Saints didn’t have any intention to sell.

From all the clubs who tried to sign the player, Record only names Chelsea, who have been interested in Cedric since his displays in the Confederations Cup.

They claim that since Southampton turned down all approaches, Antonio Conte had to go for Davide Zappacosta, who joined Chelsea in a €28m deal from Torino.

It’s not very clear from Record if the Saints ‘gave no chance’ to these clubs because it was the end of the transfer window or if their attitude was the same during the entire summer.

Chelsea’s interest in the player has been claimed for months now, so a late move may have scuppered their chances this time
