As Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a piece speaking of Sporting goalkeeper Antonio Adan and how good he’s been, an they also bring a few words about his reserve on the bench.

That’s João Virgínia, who was loaned by Everton last summer and is staying with the Lions at least until the end of the season.

The Toffees’ player only made nine appearances for the Lions this season. Still, it’s claimed that his spell in Lisbon was ‘approved’ and his continuity at the club is now in ‘analysis’.

When negotiating the loan, Everton and Sporting agreed to a clause for a permanent move worth €3.5m. So, at least in theory, the decision to buy Virgínia was supposed to be in the hands of the Portuguese club.

However, O Jogo claims that even though the player is seen as ‘a good option for the future’, the Lions want to negotiate that fee down. It’s just still not said how much they’d like to pay, or if Everton will accept giving a discount.

Antonio Adan is 34-years-of-age, with his recent contract running until he’s 37. Sporting feel the need of having a substitute for him, but are not in a rush either, and that’s why they’ll take it easy when negotiating for Virgínia’s signing.
