Lazio have been pressing to sign Alessio Romagnoli this summer, but are struggling to get a deal for the defender over the line.

That’s seen them consider other targets, and Gazzetta dello Sport report Issa Diop is one of those.

The 25-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a transfer over the past year, and that he has a year left on his contract obviously creates some doubts about his future with West Ham, although the Hammers do have an option to extend it by a further season.

Diop was in and out of the West Ham side last season, yet was still a useful part of David Moyes’ squad as the London club battled on multiple fronts. There’s no indication from Gazzetta about what kind of fee Lazio would be looking to pay for the player, and it’s likely they may think twice should they learn he won’t be available cheaply.

For now, they’re concentrating on Romagnoli, and should that move fail they’ll turn their attention to Diop and others.
