The idea that Leeds United could make a move for Alexander Nübel is picking up pace, despite the Whites now being in the Championship.

Daniel Farke’s side are facing competition from VfB Stuttgart in Germany, and it seems the latest move from the Germans could ruin any hope the Elland Road side might have had of signing the goalkeeper.

Nübel has made it clear he wants to leave Bayern Munich, and Leeds have come knocking, but Florian Plettenberg is now reporting that a ‘secret meeting’ took place between the shot stopper and Stuttgart.

He took to Twitter to reveal that the player was ‘on site’ in the German town to meet the people in charge of the transfer, with those being Alexander Wehrle, Fabian Wohlgemuth, Sebastian Hoeneß and Stuttgart’s goalkeeping coach Stefan Krebs.

It’s added that the club are ‘pushing for a loan with an option to buy’ and Nübel is the manger’s number one target to play in goal next season.

Plettenberg then states that Leeds United are ‘still in’ the race to get the German, but an official offer has yet to reach Bayern Munich, meaning they need to hurry.

Down their end, the Bavarian side would ‘prefer to sell’, even if Stuttgart have ‘very good chances’ of getting their man as things stand.
