Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli have submitted an opening offer of €12m to Liverpool to sign Thiago Alcantara this summer.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Saudi side are keen on the Spaniard and looking to get a deal over the line.

The Reds’ midfield has already been plundered by clubs from Saudi Arabia this summer, with Jordan Henderson departing for Al-Ettifaq and Fabinho joining Al-Ittihad Club as well.

That area of Jurgen Klopp’s side has undergone a major overhaul, with those two players as well as Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain all departing and only Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister the only arrivals so far.

Thiago has also been linked with a departure, though, following another disappointing campaign last year in which niggling injuries limited his playing time.

He’s also entered the final year of his deal and those two things combined have seen him linked with a move away now, rather than Liverpool letting him go on a free next year.

They could have now been presented with their opportunity to sell him, with L’Equipe reporting that Al-Ahli have submitted an initial offer worth €12m. They’re keen to reunite him with former Anfield teammate Roberto Firmino, who joined the Saudi club on a free earlier this summer.

They don’t offer much more than that, so it’s unclear at this point if it’s a figure that will be enough to convince the Reds or if Thiago is even keen on the move at this point.

A bid has been made nonetheless and so it’s a situation to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks, with Saudi Arabia not yet seemingly done with their big summer effort.
