The Daily Mail yesterday reported Stoke City are looking at alternatives for the centre-back position with Ryan Shawcross entering the final season of his current contract.
The likes of West Brom, Leicester City and Newcastle United are said to be monitoring Shawcross’ situation.
According to the paper, Mark Hughes’s priority in this position would be Bruno Martins Indi, who spent last season on loan at Stoke City.
If a permanent transfer doesn’t materialise for the Dutchman, it’s suggested Hughes could try to sign former German international Serdar Tasci. The 30-year-old defender is currently playing for Spartak Moscow.
Russia’s Sport Express have stated that even though Tasci helped Spartak to win the league last season, his contract nears its end next June and the Russian side could be willing to let their defensive leader leave if they can bring in a replacement this summer.
The Russian sports outlet also point out his salary could be an issue for Stoke City. Tasci currently earns €3m a season with Spartak.
