It’s been a week since the rumours regarding Lisandro Lopez’ departure from Benfica started coming out, saying he could be off in the winter.

As we pointed out, this could be a great chance for Newcastle United, who reportedly were in negotiations for the defender in the summer, but failed to find an agreement with the Eagles.

Now it’s interesting how the Portuguese press is insisting on that information, as Record has a new story about the player’s situation today.

There are actually no big updates on their story from last week. All they say is that Benfica are analysing all the possibilities, and in case a good bid is made, his permanent departure is on the table.

We must recall that A Bola has recently said that even a loan deal would be possible, so it looks like the Eagles are really expecting him to go in any kind of deal.

Lopez has made only four appearances this season, as his last game for the club was on September 12th against CSKA for the Champions League.

The price for him was said to be €10m in the summer window, but all this situation makes it sound like he would be cheaper in January.

Now, do Newcastle United still need a central defender? Rafael Benitez seems to have an options if so.
