Tottenham Hotspur fans may never have heard of Musa Yahaya, and could even believe he never belonged to the club as it’s not registered on most websites which gather such information.
He was signed by Portimonense in January 2016, and after spending six months at the club, moved to Porto, where he’s part of their reserve squad.
His transfer from Tottenham to Portimonense was claimed by some, but never clear, however in a story published by Own Goal Nigeria, the real reason why Tottenham didn’t keep the player is revealed… or at least claimed.
According to the website, Yahaya had his contract with Tottenham leaked, and due to the club’s unhappiness with the situation, they decided to let the player go.
Own Goal Nigeria’s article is supposed to make things easier to understand, but it actually doesn’t. As published by many Portuguese websites, after a document was released by Wikileaks, Portimonense bought the player from Mutunchi Academy, not Tottenham.
So the contracts did leak, and this part makes sense. But Spurs are not mentioned in that. Even though Tottenham’s name is always mentioned as a youth club for the player, how they got involved in the deal is still pretty unclear.
A little Sport Witness digging has so far failed to come up with the accurate timeline of events and transactions on this one, and it may long remain a Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino mystery.
