Following the whole Mathieu Valbuena sextape scandal, Karim Benzema has managed keep his head down in the public eye, even if he has commented a few times on his situation with Didier Deschamps the France national team.
Still at Real Madrid, the France international has just under three years left on his contract with the La Liga giants, and doesn’t seem prepared to leave anytime soon.
Should he leave, however, Manchester City would be one of his preferred options.
This is what Mediapart, relayed by RMC Sport, are claiming, having acquired an audio file where the striker tells one of his supposed representatives, Léo D’Souza, he isn’t interested in a move to Milan (with whom he was linked last year), but that he would like to either play at the Etihad or for Paris Saint-Germain, as they are ‘his teams’.
D’Souza believes this act was in response to a recent ‘financial dispute’ between himself and the Real Madrid player.
Benzema has since publicly denied all of this, taking to social media with some exasperated hashtags.
Honestly, we don’t really see Pep Guardiola or Manchester City having much of an interest in the 30-year-old, because even if he does work great in a team, these kind of problems seem to follow him around, regardless of whether they are true or not.
That and he’s entering the back end of his career, Sergio Agüero, who is a better striker, has recently renewed at the Etihad until 2021 and Gabriel Jesus appears to be the perfect replacement for the Argentine when he eventually returns to his home country before retiring.
