As Arsenal continue to be considered the main competitors for the signing of Piotr Zielinski from Napoli, some news about his possible renewal with the Italian side comes up in the local media.

Website Calcio Mercato has a story today saying the player has been negotiating a new contract with his club, which could commit him until 2023.

Besides giving Zielinski a pay raise, Napoli’s intention is obviously to protect him with a bigger tag price. That’s why his €65m release clause should soon be gone.

The Serie A side’s first idea was to extinguish the clause, just like they have been doing with other renewals, but Zielinski’s staff didn’t like it. The other option was to double the clause to €130m, which is considered to be too high by his agents.

Calcio Mercato claims that Arsenal have already tried to sign the player last summer, but had their attempt blocked by Napoli, and Unai Emery still has an eye on him.

Now with Aaron Ramsey walking for free at the end of the season, it’s possible that the French manager could go after Zielinski once again. But he should be a lot more expensive this time.
