Rangers manager Philippe Clement didn’t rely upon Ianis Hagi regularly at the start of this season.
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed regular minutes over the last few weeks and started in Rangers’ last three league games.
Genoa could make an attempt to take the 26-year-old away from Rangers in the winter market.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, and they state Rangers player could be the Serie A side’s first signing under their new owner.
Three days ago, Genoa announced that Romanian businessman Dan Șucu became their majority shareholder.
This development at the Italian club could have seen them show interest in the Romania international. He knows the Italian football from his time at Fiorentina between 2016 and 2018.
Gazzetta claim the Rangers man’s profile and ability to operate as an attacking midfielder and on both wings could fit into the needs of Patrick Vieira’s side. There’s no mention of Philippe Clement’s side and Hagi’s stance on this potential operation.
It’s also worth noting that Gazzetta’s title says the Romanian could Genoa’s first signing in the winter market, but it isn’t concretely backed up within the report.
Meanwhile, the Romanian FA president, Răzvan Burleanu, has encouraged Hagi to leave Rangers and his comments are relayed by ProSport.
“Whether Ianis Hagi ends up in Serie A or another strong league, I think Ianis has already confirmed that he deserves it and needs it at some point, either this winter or summer, it all depends on his contract situation with Rangers, he needs a challenge in this sense, but Ianis Hagi is ready to face it at the highest level and he always demonstrated it when he entered the level of the national team and made the difference”, he said.
