Manchester United have continued to keep tabs on Yann Sommer after failing to sign the Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper in the last transfer window.

Two months ago, we relayed news from Germany that the 33-year-old received a ‘top offer’ from the Red Devils in the summer.

The Switzerland international’s deal expires at the end of this season. His contract situation and the displays for club and country has seen him linked to Manchester United again.

Bild state the goalkeeper is expected to make a ‘lightning change’ in the winter market and Erik ten Hag’s side are back in the mix for him.

It’s said Manchester United have contacted Sommer to become David de Gea’s successor at Old Trafford. Like the Bundesliga keeper, the Spaniard has a contract until next June.

Gladbach, for their part, are prepared in case they lose their player in January and this is revealed by their chief, Roland Virkus.

“We weigh everything carefully and are prepared in any case,” Virkus said.

Along with De Gea, the Red Devils have Martin Dúbravka [on loan from Newcastle United] and Tom Heaton as the other two goalkeepers currently in their squad. The trio have deals expiring next June.
